Catastrophic risk insurance due for middle-size companies
Medium-sized enterprises in Italy must take out catastrophic risk insurance by October 1, 2025. This obligation stems from DL 39/2025, which extended the original deadline of December 31, 2024. Covered assets include real estate, machinery, and equipment, even if leased. The January 30, 2025 decree defines implementation rules and coverage conditions.
For insured amounts up to €30 million, deductibles must not exceed 15% of the damage, and coverage is capped at 70%.
Above €30 million, terms are freely negotiable between parties.
Valuation is based on reconstruction cost for buildings, replacement cost for movable assets, and restoration cost for land.
The June 18, 2025 decree outlines penalties for non-compliance.
Non-compliant firms will be excluded from public incentives starting July 25, 2025.
Insurers must ensure transparency by publishing policy terms online.
